US embassy people meet released journalist Nasibov in Azerbaijan

Today in Nakhichevan, representatives of the US embassy to Azerbaijan have met Ilgar Nasibov, Radio Liberty correspondent, who was released yesterday, on December 10.

The embassy representatives have visited, together with Ilgar and Malakhat Nasibovs, the office of the Resource Centre for Human Rights in Nakhichevan, where the journalist couple works. Ilgar Nasibov told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that their guests could fix the facts of pogrom in their office, from where many things and documents, and also a significant part of the equipment, had been stolen.

In the presence of the embassy representatives, a protocol was drawn up about the pogrom at the office of the Resource Centre. Later, the spouses lodged a complaint to the police on the fact of the incident. However, nobody from the police has ever arrived to the venue. Then, the Nasibovs addressed the prosecutor's office, where they were told to go to the police.

We remind you that policemen made a search in the office right after Ilgar Nasibov's arrest. Yesterday the policemen gave part of the confiscated equipment back, but part of it has disappeared.

Yesterday, the City Court of Nakhichevan sentenced the journalist under Article 147.2 (slander of committing a grave crime) to one year of conditional imprisonment.
