Militiamen sentenced to three years in colony for torturing teenagers in Kabardino-Balkaria

The Elborus District Court of Kabardino-Balkaria has sentenced employees of District Interior Unit M. Mashezov and M. Baichekuev, accused of tortures, to three years of imprisonment with serving the punishment at the general custody colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent informs that the defendants were arrested in the courtroom.

Azamat Kokov, an employee of the District Prosecutor's Office who supported the state prosecution has refrained from comments until reception of a copy of the verdict. Earlier, he had demanded for the defendants 10 years of imprisonment to each with serving of the punishment at the general custody colony.

The militiamen did not plead guilty and asked the court to acquit them.

The defendants' advocates are going to appeal against the verdict to the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria.
