Turkey recalls its ambassador from the USA after Congress adopts resolution on genocide of Armenians

Today Turkey has recalled its ambassador from the USA. The motive was the passing a resolution by the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of the Congress on recognition of the fact of genocide in relations to Armenians in the epoch of the Ottoman Empire.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Turkish Naval Forces has cancelled his earlier planned visit to the USA, the RIA "Novosti" informs.

The government of Turkey has named the document to be "an irresponsible act" and disclosed its intention to hold a military operation against Kurds in Northern Iraq.

The "Caucasian Knot" reports that the passage by the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of the US Congress of the resolution concerning genocide of Armenians has caused huge indignation in Azerbaijan.

On October 10, the Foreign Relations Committee of the House passed, with the split of votes: 27 members for and 21 members against, Resolution No. 106 on recognition of genocide of Armenians. According to the adopted procedure, after passing the resolution, it should be included into the agenda of the House sitting. The resolution draft calls on the US President "to ensure the adequate perception and embodiment of genocide against Armenians in the foreign policy of the United States."

According to Isa Gambar, leader of the "Musavat" Party, the decision will render a negative effect on the image of the States not only in Turkey but in the Islamic world as a whole. Therefore, he appeals President Bush to eliminate, together with the Congress, the mistake made and not to deepen the abyss with Muslim countries.
