In Nalchik, court sentences contract soldier to suspended imprisonment for absence from military unit

Contract soldier Ruslan Khasanov was sentenced by a military court in Nalchik to five years of suspended imprisonment for absence from his military unit. The court considered a suspended sentence possible given the Ruslan Khasanov’s intention to go to the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

According to the court’s version, Ruslan Khasanov failed to show up at his military unit on July 17, 2024, in order to temporarily evade military service during mobilization. On September 23, 2024, the police found Ruslan Khasanov at his place of residence.

Ruslan Khasanov pleaded guilty. The court has recognized as mitigating circumstances the fact that Ruslan Khasanov takes care of his two minor children, participated in counter-terrorist operations (CTOs) in the North Caucasus and in the special military operation, where he was repeatedly wounded and was handed over a state award. The fact that the defendant’s brother was killed in the special military operation in Ukraine has also been taken into account. The court has also taken into consideration that “Ruslan Khasanov expressed his intention to go to the special military operation (SMO) zone after the pronouncement of the verdict.”

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that a court sentenced Kazbek Boranov, a soldier from the Urvan District, to two years of imprisonment in a penal colony, finding him guilty of leaving his military unit without permission.
