Four people killed in shootout with law enforcers in Makhachkala
During a counterterrorist operation (CTO) introduced in Makhachkala, law enforcers killed four men. The Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) has announced that the casualties were militants if the “Islamic State” (IS)*.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last night, the CTO regime was declared in the Makhachkala settlement of Semender. During an attempt to detain them, several men opened fire on policemen. Four men were blocked in one of the houses, and residents of nearby houses were evacuated.
"As a result of the CTO conducted on March 5 in Dagestan, four bandits who had planned to commit a terror act at the facility of the regional branch of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in Kaspiysk were neutralized," the RIA “Novosti” quotes the NAC as stating.
According to the NAC, the activities of the grouping were coordinated by the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS)*. There were no casualties among law enforcers or civilians.
*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the organization "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
