Georgian journalist Mziya Amaglobeli stops her hunger strike
Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of the “Netgazeti” and “Batumelebi” online publications, agreed to stop her hunger strike. The journalist has called on the activists who held protests in her support to resume accepting food.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Mziya Amaglobeli’s defenders lodged a motion with the court requesting to change the pre-trial restriction measure for their client and release her from custody. Mziya Amaglobeli has been continuing her hunger strike in a clinic. On February 14, the court left her in custody. On February 15, journalists held a protest in front of the clinic, declaring attempts to intimidate independent media. On February 17, the director of the “Vivamed” clinic called on relatives and advocates of Mziya Amaglobeli to convince her to stop the hunger strike.
“After the tragedy in Batumi, in the ‘City of Dreams’ residential settlement, where two minor children fell into a ditch and died, it is incredibly hard for me to hear about the public’s concern over my health and life. With the help of doctors, I will try to restore nutrition,” noted Mziya Amaglobeli in her letter, which was read out by Eteri Turadze, an editor of the “Batumelebi”, on the air of the “Formula” TV Company.
A criminal case has been instituted after two minor children perished at a construction site in Batumi. City residents have pointed out that the construction site was not fenced off and demanded to punish those guilty.
Mziya Amaglobeli has thanked Temur Katamadze and Nikoloz Djvakhishvili for their support.
“I feel a special responsibility to my comrades, colleagues, and family members. I do not want my hunger strike to weaken you!” Eteri Turadze read out the Mziya Amaglobeli’s letter as stating.
