Georgian NGOs call on citizens to report about repressions

Thirteen Georgian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have called on country’s citizens to report about crimes and repressions amid the failure of public institutions to act under the law.

The “Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association” (GYLA) non-governmental organization (NGO) criticized the Georgian authorities for banning the use of masks at protest actions. According to the GYLA’s version, the ban violates freedom of expression and the Constitution of Georgia.

Civil society organizations in Georgia have united and called on residents to report repressions committed against them, the “Georgia-Online” portal reports.

“When all public institutions of the country fail to act under the law, it is the duty of civil society to collect evidence and help victims seek justice,” the NGO declared in its statement.

The NGOs, including the “Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association” (GYLA), “Civic Idea”, SJC, and others (thirteen non-governmental organizations in total), emphasize that they respect confidentiality while collecting information.
