Media: Putin meets Chechen Interior Minister Iraskhanov, sanctioned for extrajudicial execution

In Moscow, Vladimir Putin met Chechen Interior Minister Aslan Iraskhanov, the Chechen media report. Aslan Iraskhanov has been included in the US sanctions list in connection with human rights violations and extrajudicial executions in the Chechen Republic.

On November 2, 2023, it became known that Aslan Iraskhanov, a native of the Chechen leader’s ancestral village, had been appointed the Chechen Interior Minister.

The Russian President asked Aslan Iraskhanov about the results of the law enforcement bodies’ activities and the situation in Chechnya, the “Grozny” ChGTRK (Chechen State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) reported on its Telegram channel.

“Some observers believe that Aslan Iraskhanov may be transferred to some position outside of Chechnya. However, others have not ruled out that the talk could be about the intensification of the local law enforcement bodies’ efforts to recruit ‘volunteers’ to be sent to the front,” wrote maybelle.bailey, a “Caucasian Knot” reader.

In December 2019, Aslan Iraskhanov, who was then head of the Grozny police, was included in the US State Department’s sanctions list for “involvement in gross human rights violations.” “According to reliable information,” Aslan Iraskhanov is responsible for the extrajudicial execution of 27 people.
