Priest Pivovarov calls news of his death a provocation

Viktor Pivovarov, a priest from Slavyansk-on-Kuban, has been subjected to stalking after the start of a criminal prosecution in a case on fakes about the Russian Army. The stalker threatens Viktor Pivovarov, insults him online, and disseminate false messages about him.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in October, priest Viktor Pivovarov stopped services at a church in Slavyansk-on-Kuban because he could not get out of bed after an injury. Elderly Viktor Pivovarov was refused hospitalization, stated his assistant Hieromonk Jonah (Ilya Sigida).

On December 28, 2023, it became known that Archbishop Viktor (Pivovarov) of the Russia’s Orthodox Church was charged in a criminal case on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces. The reason was his article condemning the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Viktor Pivovarov associated the criminal prosecution against him with his message addressed to believers.

A message reporting about the death of Archbishop Viktor (Pivovarov) was received by the SMS service of the “Caucasian Knot”. The message also reports about a search, questioning, and beating of Hieromonk Jonah.

Viktor Pivovarov reported that an unknown person called him on October 31. “He wanted to know if I was dead. I told him that I was alive and well,” the priest said.

Hieromonk Jonah also denied the rest of the information. “They describe tall tales about my alleged beating, the confiscation of computers, the death of Viktor Pivovarov, and my arrest ... It’s all a lie,” Hieromonk Jonah said.

Archbishop Viktor (Pivovarov) and his assistant explained that since June 2023, when a criminal case was instituted against Viktor Pivovarov, they began receiving emails from a same person with curses and death wishes. They see no point in contacting the authorities, because they believe that the person who reported about the alleged Viktor Pivovarov’s death “is a provocateur,” whose actions “are coordinated with the special services.”
