Mansur Movlaev, living abroad, claims kidnapping of his relatives in Chechnya by law enforcers

Mansur Movlaev, a native of Chechnya, who left Russia, claimed that law enforcers kidnapped and used torture against his two brothers Zelimkhan and Khamzat in order to put pressure on him, the “OVD-Info”* human rights project reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 20, 2023, in Bishkek, a court released Mansur Movlaev. The six-month sentence expired, so Mansur Movlaev was released, but the court’s decision to deport him from the country remained in force, an advocate reported. After his release, Mansur Movlaev left Kyrgyzstan to avoid deportation to his homeland.

On October 4, 2023, in Bishkek, a court sentenced Mansur Movlaev to six months of imprisonment and deportation from Kyrgyzstan for illegally crossing the border. Mansur Movlaev, fearing persecution by the Chechen authorities, asked the court to sentence him to the maximum term.

Let us remind you that in August 2023, in Kyrgyzstan, law enforcers detained Mansur Movlaev, who was wanted in Russia in a case on financing extremist activity.

On September 1, human rights defenders noted that no statistics on cases of kidnappings in Chechnya were no longer kept, since relatives of missing persons were afraid to make information about their disappearances public.
