Krasnodar resident sentenced to long imprisonment term in high treason case

A military court sentenced a resident of Krasnodar to eleven years of imprisonment for attempting to join a Ukrainian armed formation.

The Southern District Military Court sentenced Ivan Kovtunovsky in a case on high treason and participation in a terrorist organization, the “RIA Novosti” news agency reported.

In June 2023, having in advance found out how to enter Ukraine, the 23-year-old young man went to the location of the Ukrainian paramilitary association “Legion ‘Freedom of Russia’ (banned in Russia)” to join its ranks, the Rostov Region Prosecutor’s Office reported.

“In June 2023, the criminal activity was suppressed by the law enforcement bodies,” the official website of the Rostov Region Prosecutor’s Office reports.
