Chechen advocate Timur Idalov is back at large

The court has announced that the sentence against Timur Idalov, a Chechen advocate, has come into force, and released him from the SIZO (pre-trial prison), demanding from him to get registered for forced labour. Idalov has claimed his illegal keeping at the SIZO after the verdict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Timur Idalov was accused in the case of threats to the prosecutor. On November 28, the court sentenced him to one year and 11 months of forced labour. A three-year ban on practicing law was the most severe part of the verdict.

Timur Idalov was detained on April 12, 2023, on suspicion of threatening the prosecutor with violence during the trial. The charge was reclassified as a threat to kill or cause harm to the prosecutor.

After he was sentenced to forced labour, Idalov was kept at the SIZO for a month, which contradicts the Criminal Code, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has explained.

According to Idalov, he was released only because the court considered the sentence to come into force, although his defence had filed appeal complaints, which have not yet been considered.

Let us recall that Timur Idalov, as an advocate, represented the interests of the Belkharoevs in the case of the murder of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the head of the Ingush "E" Centre.
