Lawyers exclude transferring 18-year-old Kevin Lik to German prison

Kevin Lik, a resident Maykop, convicted for treason, will not be sent to a German prison as a German citizen, since only his Russian citizenship matters for Russian law enforcers, lawyers have explained.

In June, Kevin Lik was convoyed from the Krasnodar SIZO (pre-trial prison) to the Arkhangelsk Region; and since then his whereabouts are unknown, his mother stated on June 18. In their turn, human rights defenders have reported that Kevin was found in the Yaroslavl SIZO.

Kevin Lik has German and Russian citizenships. According to the prosecution, as a schoolboy, he monitored the local military unit and made photos of its locations. The court sentenced him to four years in colony, finding him guilty of treason.

The sentence of an 18-year-old defendant under this article "is not unique, but it is not widespread either," Dmitry Zair-Bek, the head of the association of lawyers and human rights defenders "First Division"*, has noted emphasizing that it no longer depends on one's age.

Dmitry has added that Russian law enforcement bodies treat Lik only as a citizen of the Russian Federation. According to the lawyer, Kevin's second citizenship does not entail his serving his sentence in a German prison.

Mikhail Benyash*, a lawyer, has also noted that since Russia and Germany have no agreement on dual citizenship, Russia does not treat Kevin Leak as a German citizen.
