Volgograd lawyer complains about bureaucracy in investigators’ and prosecutors’ work

Lawyer Ruslan Nurushev filed a complaint to the higher instance prosecutor’s office about the inaction of the district prosecutor’s office and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in the case on the disclosure of his personal data in the media. Ruslan Nurushev called the transfer of his complaint to the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) a “ping-ponging,” since such complaints do not fall within the competence of the police.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that residents of Volgograd, whose personal data were disclosed on the air of the “Volgograd-1” TV Channel by journalists Sergey Mazanov and Roman Potolovsky, filed complaints to the law enforcement bodies. So, lawyer Ruslan Nurushev, one of the heroes of the TV programme, filed a complaint to the prosecutor’s office. He reported the inaction of the Investigating Committee, which did not investigate the circumstances of the crime, but transferred the complaint to the police. Lawyers pointed to signs of criminal offenses in the actions of the TV Channel’s journalists, who, under the guise of a journalistic investigation, made public the names and places of work of city residents who came with flowers to the monument to the victims of political repression after Alexei Navalny’s death.

“The prosecutor’s office refused to grant my complaint. It recognized the decision of the Investigating Committee as legal. That’s all! The prosecutors did not even explain their decision,” Ruslan Nurushev expressed his indignation.

In April, the complaint was forwarded to the police. On May 23, Ruslan Nurushev complained about the actions of the Investigating Committee to the district prosecutor’s office. The prosecutors recognized the decision of the Investigating Committee as legal.

Ruslan Nurushev proposed the regional prosecutor to recognize the actions of both the Investigating Committee and the district prosecutor’s office as illegal and oblige them to eliminate the violations.
