Activist Darya Polyudova transferred to Kostroma colony

Darya Polyudova, an activist from Kuban (Krasnodar Territory), who was serving her sentence in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) within an extremism case, was brought to a colony in Kostroma and placed under strict custody conditions. The human rights project "OVD-Info"* has informed about this on its Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this March Polyudova was transferred from a KBR colony to SIZO (pre-trial prison) in Volgograd. On April 1, Polyudova's mother asked Volgograd residents to help give her daughter foodstuffs and essential goods. Several local residents responded to the call and donated some food to Polyudova.

Let us recall that on January 31, 2024, human rights defenders stated that in the KBR colony, Polyudova was subjected to pressure from the staff and other prisoners, one of whom beat Polyudova up. They announced fundraising for legal help to her.

In May 2021, a court in Moscow sentenced Polyudova to six years in jail, finding that she had justified the activities of Chechen field commanders Shamil Basaev and Aslan Maskhadov, as well as of Evgeny Manyurov, who opened fire near the FSB building in Moscow in December 2019. The defence insisted that Polyudova made no direct calls for terrorism.

Later, a new case was opened against Darya: according to the FSB, she created a movement with the aim of publicly justifying terrorism and extremism. In December 2022, the court sentenced Polyudova to nine years in penal colony.
