Dagestani native Ulker Gashimova, accused of calling for terrorism, complains about pressure from investigator

Ulker Gashimova, a native of Makhachkala, accused of calls for terrorism and extremism allegedly contained in her posts on social networks, has complained that an investigator was putting pressure on her. The prisoners who are being kept at a SIZO (pre-trial prison) together with Ulker Gashimova have also complained about pressure from the investigator, notes Gulnara Alekberova, a mother of Ulker Gashimova.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 5, it became known that law enforcers detained 23-year-old activist Ulker Gashimova at an airport while she was trying to leave Russia. Her fiancé said that Ulker Gashimova planned to seek political asylum in the Netherlands.

A criminal case was instituted against Ulker Gashimova for her posts in Telegram channels in December 2022 and February 2023.

Ulker Gashimova did not participate in any political or social actions, her fiancé Anton Kolomitsyn reports.

Advocate Gasan Suleimanov claims that Ulker Gashimova allows herself to voice some unnecessary statements, which make her defence’s work more difficult. “I tell her: ‘Please keep quiet or say that you wrote your posts in a state of anger. It will be better for yourself.’ But she replies: ‘No, I will speak, and I will say the same thing in court,” the advocate stated.

In her letters to her fiancé Anton Kolomitsyn, Ulker Gashimova confirmed that the advocate requested her not to voice unnecessary expressions. The young woman emphasizes that she does not intend to plead guilty.

Ulker Gashimova also complained that during her discussion with the investigator, he barely controlled himself not to hit her. The advocate was sceptical about the client’s complaint about the investigator’s rude behaviour.

Ulker Gashimova noted that the investigator intimidated her with sending her to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.
