Human rights defender Nagavkin continues his hunger strike in SIZO for 13th day

Human rights defender Igor Nagavkin has been on a hunger strike for the 13th day in a SIZO (pre-trial prison). He demands to be visited by the Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region, a sister of the arrested human rights defender states.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 11, it became known that Igor Nagavkin was continuing his indefinite hunger strike to protest against violations of the arrested persons’ rights in the SIZO in Leninsk. The SIZO administration and the prosecutor’s office did not respond to the hunger strike, the sister of Igor Nagavkin said.

The Leninsk City Court of the Volgograd Region considers the case against Igor Nagavkin, accused of disorganizing the operation of the SIZO. The human rights defender complained about an organized provocation when he was placed in a cell with “pedophiles,” which caused a conflict between him and warders of the SIZO. On February 19, Igor Nagavkin complained that he had been illegally kept in solitary confinement for more than 40 days.

“Igor has lost a lot of weight ... He suffers from headaches ... There is no doctor in the SIZO,” said Natalia Shishlina, the human rights activist’s sister.

The woman has announced her intention to seek a meeting with the Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region.
