Participants of rally in Nazran honour memory of victims of deportation of Vainakh

In Nazran, hundreds of people came to a mourning meeting on the 80th anniversary of Stalin’s deportation of Ingush and Chechens to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Hundreds of people came to the rally, and the event was also attended by Ingush leader Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, elders, who witnessed the deportation, and activists from public organizations, the newspaper “Ingushetia” reports.

Exhibitions welcome visitors in museums and libraries, and meetings are being held to provide schoolchildren and young people with the opportunity to talk to eyewitnesses of the events that took place 80 years ago.

“The Ingush and Chechens shared the fate of other minor nations, unfairly doomed to death ... After they had survived the difficult thirteen years of deportation, they got a long-awaited opportunity to return to their homeland, although not all of them returned,” wrote Magomed Mutsolgov, the chair of the Coordination Council of Ingush NGOs, the head of the human rights organization “Mashr”, in his blog on the “Caucasian Knot”.

On February 23, in the village of Chechen-Aul, people opened gates in all yards as a sign of memory and grief for the victims of the deportation. The tradition of opening the gates has become a way for residents of Chechnya to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of deportation.

The public organization “Aukh” announced Muslim rites of mourning and remembrance in the Novolaksky District of Dagestan. The local prosecutor’s office warned the organizers against holding any actions not sanctioned by the authorities.
