Kizilyurt resident with many children sentenced to suspended imprisonment for connections with militants

In Kizilyurt, a court found local resident Zulfiya Dengalova guilty of participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF) in Syria. Taking into account her repentance and the fact that the woman is raising four children alone, the court sentenced her to suspended imprisonment for five years.

According to the Kizilyurt City Court’s version, Zulfiya Dengalova left Russia in 2014, illegally crossed the Turkish-Syrian border and joined the armed formation of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”) in Syria..

Zulfiya Dengalova “came to the police herself, fully admitted her guilt, and helped solve the crime.”

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that that in April 2023, the court returned for reconsideration to the prosecutor’s office the case against Khanumkyz Kulibekova, who was sentenced to five years of imprisonment on the charge of intending to join an illegal armed formation in Syria. The court recommended reclassifying the charge under a more stringent article.
