Child suffers at wedding party in KChR

A seven-year-old girl was wounded during a shooting at a wedding party in the Ust-Dzhegutin District of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR). A resident of Rostov-on-Don, detained after the incident, has pleaded guilty.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that shooting is regarded as an offense, in the republics of Northern Caucasus the tradition of shooting at wedding parties is still alive. Thus, in December 2023, in North Ossetia, one of the participants in the wedding procession fired several times into the air with a firearm. The police then opened a criminal case under the article of hooliganism.

The ritual of shooting at Caucasian wedding parties was considered a sort of a "talisman against the evil eye," but the ancient tradition has long turned into an element of fun and courage, Caucasian experts stated in 2018. "Many Caucasians have already forgotten the true meaning of shooting and shoot because it's fun," said Akhmet Yarlykapov.

On January 19, doctors reported that a seven-year-old girl from the village of Vazhnoe had been brought to them with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. After assistance was provided, the child was sent home, the press service of the KChR's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has reported.

Policemen have found out that a 24-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, while in the village of Vazhnoe at his friend's wedding party, fired several times into the air from a traumatic pistol, which he legally owned. One of the bullets accidentally ricocheted and hit the child.

The "Caucasian Knot" has repeatedly reported about incidents with shooting at wedding parties organized in Northern Caucasus. Thus, in March 2023, a resident of Nalchik was punished for such shooting.

In Chechnya, since 2012, a strict ban is in force on shooting during wedding celebrations. In November 2015, two MIA employees were fired for violating this ban; they fired their weapons into the air at wedding parties of acquaintances.
