Resident of Dagestan found guilty of extremism

In Makhachkala, a court found Ruslan Abdullaev guilty of involvement in a cell of the “USSR Citizens”* and sentenced him to imprisonment in a penal colony. However, taking into account the time spent under arrest, the defendant was released in the courtroom. The prosecutor’s office filed a request to toughen that the punishment for Ruslan Abdullaev, and the Supreme Court of Dagestan added six months of restriction of freedom to the sentence, the “Kavkaz.Realii”** reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in May 2023, the court sentenced Tatiana Fomina, a resident of Makhachkala, to three years of probation for involvement in the prohibited extremist organization “USSR”*. In June 2023, Makhachkala resident Sharab Davudov was also sentenced to probation for participating in the activities of the above-mentioned organization.

In February, the investigation of two criminal cases against residents of Dagestan Tatiana Fomina and Zainulla Abdullaev, accused of organizing and participating in the activities of the extremist organization “USSR”* was completed. According to the investigators’ version, in the period from December 1, 2019 to October 23, 2020, Tatiana Fomina and Zainulla Abdullaev participated in the executive committee of the “Makhachkala City Council of People’s Deputies of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as part of the RSFSR/USSR*, a division of the prohibited extremist association “USSR”*.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that on December 7, the Kirovsky District Court of Makhachkala extended for three months the ban on certain actions of Larisa Bochieva (Bachieva), accused of creating a cell of an extremist organization. The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan upheld the arrest. Larisa Bochieva claimed that she had no connections with the prohibited organization.

*In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the “Union of Rus’ Slavic Forces” (one of the group of movements that also includes “USSR Citizens”) as an extremist organization.
