Participant of clashes at Makhachkala airport charged with attempted murder of law enforcer

According to the information released by the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan, at least one of those arrested in connection with the unrest at an airport in Makhachkala has been charged with an attempt on the life of a law enforcer. The article provides for a penalty of up to life imprisonment.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that by December 13, it became known that about 150 people had been arrested in a criminal case on mass unrest at the airport in Makhachkala, and one of them was also accused of attacking a law enforcer. Most of the accused have had their arrests extended until the end of March, while almost no investigating actions are being carried out, and a number of those arrested are banned from being visited by their relatives and friends. One of those arrested, Gerei Djamalutdinov, claims that he was not at the Makhachkala airport during the clashes, and the police forced him to incriminate himself, but investigators do not verify his alibi, state advocates and a member of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan.

On October 29, mass riots occurred at the Makhachkala airport following the reports about the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured.

One of those arrested in the case on unrest at the Makhachkala airport is also charged with attempted murder of a law enforcer, the “Mediazona”* reports.

The official website of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan reports that all five persons who filed appeals against the extension of their arrests were charged under the article on participation in mass riots. Only one of them is also accused of encroaching on the life of a law enforcer (the article of the Russian Criminal Code provides for 12 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment).

*On September 29, 2021, the Ministry of Justice of Russia included the LLC “ZP” (the legal entity that had established the “Mediazona”) into the list of media outlets-foreign agents.
