Resident of Dagestan accused of attacking law enforcer during airport unrests

According to information from the Dagestani Supreme Court (SC), at least one of those arrested because of unrests at Makhachkala Airport is accused of assaulting a law enforcer. The SC has received at least 74 complaints against the arrests due to above unrests.

By December 3, the total number of detainees kept at the Makhachkala SIZO (pre-trial prison) within the criminal case of mass unrests at the airport had exceeded 130, Shamil Khadulaev, a deputy chairman of the Dagestan Public Oversight Commission (POC), has informed. Commentators in his Telegram channel have called on to release those who did not break the law but were at the airport on their personal business.

All those who have appealed against their arrest are charged under the article on participation in mass riots (providing for three to eight years of freedom deprivation); only in one case the article of assaulting a law enforcer (providing for up to five years in custody) was added to the previous one, the "Mediazona"* has reported.

*On September 29, 2021, the Ministry of Justice of Russia included the LLC "ZP" (the legal entity that had established the "Mediazona") into the list of media outlets-foreign agents.
