Human rights defenders secure prosecutors’ attention to problems of people with disabilities in Dagestan

The prosecutor’s office issued a complaint to the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of Dagestan due to the untimely provision of people with disabilities with the rehabilitation means to be provided to them under the law, the “Patient Monitor” human rights organization reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in Dagestan, people with disabilities do not receive the assistance they are entitled to by the law. So, in October, residents of the republic complained about the problems with getting free diapers in remote areas of Dagestan: people had to go to Makhachkala and stand in lines for many hours.

Officials of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of Dagestan may face criminal prosecution in connection with regular violations of the rights of people with disabilities to medical products and rehabilitation means. The point is that employees of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of Dagestan do not provide people with disabilities with diapers, wheel chairs, and other assistance to which the people with disabilities are entitled by law.

“The prosecutor’s office has also found that for the entire current year, diapers were not delivered to people with disabilities at home, as they should have been. The material was sent to the investigating authorities to resolve the issue of criminal prosecution,” the “Patient Monitor” human rights organization reported on its Telegram channel.
