Kabardino-Balkaria: relatives ask to increase food parcels to persons on remand during Ramadan holiday

In Kabardino-Balkaria, relatives of the defendants in the case of the attack on Nalchik on October 13, 2005, have filed a petition to A. Yu. Sovrulin, head of the investigatory group of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the South federal District (SFD), asking to increase food parcels to the inmates.

"We are hereby asking you to lift up, for the period of the Ramadan month (Muslim fasting) from September 13 to October 12, all the restrictions on the weight of food parcels, which can be delivered to the defendants in Criminal Case 25/65-06, since because of their religious beliefs they observe the sawm (fasting) and require stronger nutrition," runs the petition.

The petition was signed by 38 persons.

We remind you that a total of 59 persons accused of the attack on Nalchik on October 13, 2005, are kept in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the city of Nalchik.

On October 1, their trial will commence, for which purpose a special building has been erected at No. 3 Pyatigorskaya Street in Nalchik, since none of the existing court buildings in Nalchik could house this number of defendants.

At the same time, it has become known to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that a unified press centre has been found under the judicial department for covering the trial.
