Attack on policeman is second armed incident in Ingushetia within a month

The shelling of a police car near the village of Yandare was preceded by a shootout in late November in Sunzha, where a law enforcer was wounded.

At night on December 5, four bullets were fired at a policeman's car near the village of Yandare. The attack, according to the "Caucasian Knot", was the second armed incident within the past month after a similar incident in Sunzha.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 22, in Sunzha, law enforcers shot dead an alleged accomplice of "wanted members of a bandit grouping." According to the FSB branch in Ingushetia, a man named Ganiev opened fire on law enforcers during an attempt to detain him and was killed by return fire. One of the law enforcers was wounded. Sources said that the casualty was suspected of aiding Amirkhan Gurazhev and Adam Ozdoev, who were wanted after the armed incidents in March and April this year.

On April 5, 2023, in Zyazikov-Yurt, during a counterterrorist operation (CTO), law enforcers discovered a grouping of suspected militants. When trying to detain them, they opened fire. Three policemen were killed and eight others were wounded.

The law enforcers' losses in Zyazikov-Yurt became the largest in terms of the number of casualties per day among law enforcers in Ingushetia after August 2012, the "Caucasian Knot" has calculated.

The shootout in Zyazikov-Yurt was one of a series of armed incidents following an attack on a traffic police post located on the Ingush-North-Ossetian border on March 28. After this, six residents of Ingushetia were put on the wanted list. Later, two of them (Ramazan Eldiev and Movsar Kottoev) were found dead.

It should be noted here that the CTO, introduced in April in the Malgobek District, became the first in Ingushetia since 2020. In 2022, no armed incidents, explosions or terror acts were recorded in Ingushetia. In 2021, at least one person fell victim to the armed conflict in the republic – an alleged militant was killed by law enforcers.
