Contract serviceman convicted in Nalchik for evading service

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court has sentenced Khizir Kugotov, a contract soldier, to a year in colony, finding him guilty of leaving his military unit without permission.

The above Court has found Private Khizir Kugotov guilty of evading his military service, the "Gazeta Yuga" outlet has reported in its Telegram channel.

In order "to relax and spend time with relatives," Kugotov failed to appear in time for his duty, stayed at home, and later voluntarily arrived at his military unit.

"On April 25, 2023, Kugotov ... failed to appear on time for service until May 12 without good reason," the text of the verdict says.

The defendant has fully admitted his guilt.

Let us remind you that the Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has upheld the sentence of pregnant servicewoman Madina Kabaloeva from Kabardino-Balkaria for her failure to appear for military service. The woman received a recommendation from the medical company for temporary release from service due to pregnancy and the presence of another small child, but he did not inform the command about this. The court sentenced her to six years in colony and deferred the enforcement until 2032.

The sentence of a pregnant military servicewoman for evading service is the first of its kind in Russia, but this is not a systematic approach, but a perpetrators excess, Valentina Melnikova, the head of the Union of the Committees of Soldiers' Mothers, has stated.
