Colleagues of journalist Gadjiev hold two solo pickets in Makhachkala

In Makhachkala, journalists Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov held solo pickets with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev from custody.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested editor of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala. On August 7, solo pickets were held by Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”, and Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the publication “Novoye Delo” (New Clause).

According to his colleagues, Abdulmumin Gadjiev suffers because the newspaper voiced “uncomfortable questions” to the authorities and the law enforcement bodies.

At his solo picket, Magomed Magomedov demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev. His protest action was followed by solo picket held by Idris Yusupov. In his hands, the journalist was holding a poster with the written demand: “Freedom to Journalism.”

Friends and colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev attended the place of the solo pickets. Both pickets attracted the attention of passers-by and car drivers. According to Idris Yusupov, the police took an explanation letter from Magomed Magomedov, but did not attempt to interrupt the protest actions.

Let us remind you that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and Kemal Tambiev have been arrested since June 2019 on the charge of financing terrorism. On June 22, a public prosecutor requested the court to sentence the defendants to 19 years of imprisonment in a penal colony. According to Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the public prosecutor ignored the arguments of experts and the testimonies of witnesses.
