Chechen native Bataev stays in critical condition, Diaspora members report

The condition of Ali Bataev, a native of Chechnya, became critical amid a 51-day hunger strike in a deportation centre in Switzerland, the “European House of Peace” organization claims.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 27, human rights defenders from the “European House of Peace” reported that the condition of Ali Bataev, who had been on a hunger strike for 44 days in a deportation centre in Switzerland, had deteriorated sharply.

The authorities of Switzerland have considered the stay in the country of Ali Bataev, who arrived from Ukraine, illegal, and intend to deport him to Russia. Ali Bataev believes that he will be persecuted by the Chechen authorities. On July 21, in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, and on July 24, in Germany and Sweden, activists held protests against the deportation of the native of Chechnya. Zainap Gashaeva, a member of the “European House of Peace” organization, stated that the law enforcement bodies are putting pressure on Ali Bataev’s relatives living in Chechnya.

On August 2, in the suburbs of Bern, activists from the Chechen Diaspora held a rally in defence of Ali Bataev, reports Lachin Mamishov, a member of the “European House of Peace” organization.

“Refugees from Chechnya should not be discriminated against, they have the right to a fair treatment. The authorities of Switzerland should reconsider their migration policy towards natives of Chechnya,” said Lachin Mamishov as quoted by the “Kavkaz.Realii”*.
