Milashina and Nemov discharged from hospital

Elena Milashina, a journalist of the "Novaya Gazeta" outlet, and Alexander Nemov, an advocate, who were attacked in Grozny, have been discharged from the hospital under medical supervision.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, in Chechnya, an armed grouping attacked Milashina and Nemov, who had flown to Grozny aiming to attend the trial of Zarema Musaeva. Milashina said that unknown people in the car interfered with the taxi driver's car, in which she was travelling with Nemov from the airport; the attackers pressed the taxi to the roadside and forced the driver to stop. Then they put Milashina and Nemov on their knees and put weapons to their heads. The journalist and the advocate were severely beaten up. Doctors said that Milashina received a head injury, numerous bruises and up to 14 bone fractures. Nemov's colleagues said that he could not walk.

Half a day after the attack, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, promised to "sort it out," and Akhmed Dudaev, the head of the Chechen Ministry of Press, pointed out that "the style of Western special services" was traced in the attack.

Milashina and Nemov have been discharged from the hospital under doctors' supervision, the "Novaya Gazeta" has reported. Doctors assess their condition as satisfactory. They still have to go through rehabilitation. Milashina's fingers are broken, and Nemov can hardly move because of a stab wound to his leg. However, both are cheerful and ready to get to work as soon as possible.

The Council of Russian Journalists has stated that the organizers of the attack on Milashina and Nemov were intended to intimidate critics of the authorities.
