Relatives of Dagestanis killed in Chechnya express their disappointment with court’s decision

The court of appeal did not take into account the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which recognized the authorities responsible for the deaths of eight young Dagestani natives in Chechnya. This was reported by victims’ relatives who promised to appeal against the verdict.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 10, 2020, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya found the eight killed natives of Dagestan guilty of encroachment on the lives of law enforcers and illegal arms trafficking, but closed the criminal case because of their deaths. On July 5, the court of appeal refused to reconsider the case for the relatives of the victims.

On September 28, 2016, residents of Dagestan Gashim Uzdanov, Pakhrudin Makhaev, Islam Magomedov, and Shamil Djamalutdinov disappeared on the way from Kaspiysk to Makhachkala. On October 4, 2016, Khusein Khuseinov (Gosen Gosenov), Klych Klychev, Shamil Djamalutdinov, and Kamil Djamaludinov disappeared in Khasavyurt. The law enforcement bodies claimed that the above-mentioned people were plotting a terror act and were killed in a shootout.

Umraikhan, the mother of Islam Magomedov, is determined to prove that her son was not guilty.

Burliyat, the mother of Pakhrudin Makhaev, notes that Russian courts do not pay any attention to the verdict of the ECtHR.

Advocate Yulia Antonova, who temporarily represented the interests of the relatives of the killed young men, confirmed that the court did not take into account the decision of the ECtHR in the case.

Let us remind you that on September 16, 2022, Russia ceased to be a party to the European Convention on Human Rights. However, the ECtHR has stated that it retains its competence to consider complaints filed against Russia until the above-mentioned date.
