Activists support Abdulmumin Gadjiev with their pickets

In Makhachkala, colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), held solo pickets with the demand to release him. The police wrote down their personal data and demanded an explanation.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold pickets in his support in Makhachkala.

The first solo picket demanding freedom for Abdulmumin Gadjiev was held by Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chernovik”.

The second solo picket demanding freedom for all political prisoners was held by journalist Idris Yusupov.

Passers-by and drivers reacted to solo pickets more actively than a week ago. In particular, many tourists reacted to Magomed Magomedov’s protest action.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov, the head of the “Ansar” charitable foundation, and Kemal Tambiev have been arrested since June 2019 on the charge of financing terrorism. On June 22, a public prosecutor requested the court to sentence the defendants to 19 years of imprisonment. Abdulmumin Gadjiev noted that the public prosecutor ignored the arguments of experts and the testimonies of witnesses. Advocates believe that a judge will not dare to pronounce an acquittal, but may impose a more lenient sentence.
