North Ossetia commemorates victims of the terror act of September 1-3, 2004

Today, September 1, 2007, is the third anniversary of Beslan tragic events. Terrorists began taking hostages at 9:15 a.m. in the yard of Secondary School No. 1, where pupils and parents had rallied to solemnly mark the "Day of Knowledge" (start of school year). Today, the school yard was especially crowded: residents of North Ossetia-Alania, representatives of power bodies, organizations and enterprises came to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the tragedy.

Flowers were laid by the members of the RF State Duma delegation headed by Boris Gryzlov, Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the South Federal District Dmitri Kozak, Head of North Ossetia Teimuraz Mamsurov, President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity, veterans and fighters of the "Alpha" and "Vympel" (Pennon) special-purpose detachments.

On the eve of the mourning actions, Father Theophan, Episcopus of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz, arrived to the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

Numerous journalists have come to North Ossetia for covering the penitential events, and it became known that about 100 representatives of Russian mass media and 20 correspondents of foreign editions and TV channels have been working in Beslan today.

For the period of the mourning events, lessons were cancelled at Beslan schools, and pupils will be back in their classrooms on September 5.
