Gadjiev's colleagues note Makhachkala townspeople's interest in his case

The solo pickets held in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev have interested Makhachkala residents and tourists, Magomed Magomedov and Idris Yusupov have reported. In his turn, Isa, one of Gadjiev's friends, believes that Makhachkala townspeople are apolitical; therefore, they don't come out to support the picketers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that solo pickets demanding to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev were held in Makhachkala on May 8 by Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" weekly outlet, and Idris Yusupov, a journalist of "Novoye Delo" outlet. During 40 minutes, 25 passers-by reacted to Magomedov's solo picket; 16 car drivers also supported the journalist with signals and gestures; four passers-by from among those who reacted to the action turned to Magomedov with questions and words of support.

Idris Yusupov has also pointed to an active reaction from passers-by and car drivers. He has noted that recently the number of people who came up to him in the street and asked about Gadjiev's fate has gone up. In his opinion, this is due to the video posted on the YouTube, which has a million subscribers. The video is based on the information from the "Caucasian Knot" articles.

Mr Yusupov has noted that residents of Dagestan have a demand for information about Gadjiev's criminal prosecution. At the same time, as he has stated, only a few outlets are covering the developments around Gadjiev's case and the pickets held in his support.

Idris has reminded that the demand of his solo picket "Freedom to Journalism" is primarily related to the freedom of journalism in the country as a whole. The demand is also connected with Gadjiev's case.

Isa, the above Gadjiev's friend, said that it was not the first time he had come to support the pickets. In his opinion, Makhachkala townspeople fail to go out to support the solo pickets in support of Gadjiev because of their poor involvement in politics and absence of civic position. "People are afraid to write complaints even when this is provided for by law," he has stated.

Pickets in Gadjiev's support remind Makhachkala residents about his case, Magomed Magomedov said on March 20.
