Court refuses to consider Zemfira Tskaeva's claim against MIA

The lawsuit filed by the widow of Vladimir Tskaev, a resident of Vladikavkaz who died after being questioned by the police, against the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) demanding 15 million roubles in compensation was left without consideration.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the family of Vladimir Tskaev, who died after being tortured by the police, demanded 15 million roubles from the MIA as compensation for moral harm.

The Leninsky District Court of Vladikavkaz has dismissed Zemfira Tskaeva's lawsuit against the Russian MIA, the "Osnova" outlet writes.

Let us remind you that in April 2022, the Supreme Court (SC) of North Ossetia commuted the sentences of six policemen - four of them were released from their sentences due to the statute of limitations; and the court reduced the prison terms for two others. On November 8, 2022, Spartak Buzoev and Alan Bigaev, convicted in the case of Tskaev's death, were released on the conditional early relief (CER). On December 25, 2022, it became known that another convict, Soslan Sitokhov, filed a request for the CER. On March 7, the Fifth Court of Cassation sent the case of Tskaev's death for a new trial to the Leninsky District Court of Vladikavkaz. According to Tskaeva, the news about the annulment of the sentence came as a complete surprise to her.

Russia is making use of the so-called "Soviet approach" to defining the amount of compensation to victims' relatives, the author of the blog entitled "Bloggerka.Northern Caucasus" run on the "Caucasian Knot" believes. As a rule, in cases of death from torture, as in the case of Vladimir Tskaev, the courts assign insignificant amounts, based, for example, on the salary of the deceased.
