Authorities of Chechnya report on reconciliation of family feuds

Two families that were involved in blood feud because of the death of a resident of the Gordali village were reconciled with the participation of the Muftiate and employees of the special commission to resolve conflicts based on blood feuds.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that religious figures and authorities of Chechnya regularly report on the reconciliation of family feuds. On January 16, the Muftiate of Chechnya announced that in 2022, 58 conflicts based on blood feuds were settled in the republic with the participation of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya.

The tradition of blood feud had developed even during the tribal system, but it has retained its relevance in Northern Caucasus. According to the tradition of blood feud, relatives of a murdered person must take revenge not only on the murderer, but also on his relatives.

In the village of Gordali in the Gudermes District of Chechnya, a rite of reconciliation of family feuds took place, in which representatives of the religious figures took part. The reconciliation became possible thanks to the activities of the special commission, reports the “Grozny” ChGTRK (State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company) in its video report posted on Instagram*.

On behalf of Arsen Grimsultanov and his relatives, Deputy Mufti of Chechnya Ansar Khetiev asked relatives of Sizikhanov to forgive the culprit of his death. The Sizikhanov side forgave the Grimsultanov family.

Let us remind you that in February 2020, the “Grozny” TV Channel reported a story describing how at the initiative of the authorities of Chechnya, two families reconciled, which had been in a state of blood feud for 25 years. Forced reconciliation could lead to renewed conflict, Caucasian experts point out.
