Parents of blogger Shevtsov released after detention in Astrakhan

The defence found violations in the detention protocol of blogger Vasily Shevtsov's parents, and the court in Astrakhan released them without imposing punishment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 22, Shevtsov, who had left Russia after the announcement of the mobilization, reported the detention of his parents in Astrakhan. According to the blogger, law enforcers did not allow his sister to see her parents, nor was she explained the reason for their detention. During the last conversation, their father said that he and his wife were "taken away for interrogation." Vasily has linked the persecution of his parents with his publications.

In October and November 2022, four videos with pacifist slogans and criticism of the mobilization and the Russian leadership were posted on Shevtsov's YouTube channel.

The results of the interrogation are unclear, since the parents "were simply released without any charges being brought against them and without imposing a fine," the blogger has noted.

Shevtsov has pointed out that his father has heart problems and is monitored by doctors. Galina Shevtsova, the mother, also has health problems; she is "always on pills."

"This was the first time that law enforcers came to my parents because of my posts on the Internet. I had been threatened earlier in the network, but I did not pay attention to that. I treated them as bots," Vasily Shevtsov has added.
