Head of Chechnya calls for tougher punishment for evading mobilization

Service evaders should be severely fined and then sent to the frontline, and not allowed to "sit out in a cell," Ramzan Kadyrov has stated in his comment on the legislation amendments offered by MPs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the head of Chechnya treated those who wouldn't go to Ukraine under mobilization as "cowards, traitors and second-sort people."

In his Telegram channel, Kadyrov has also suggested to toughen the punishment provided for by the bill for evading military service during mobilization. He urged not to "feed evaders at the expense of the state," but to give the "soldiers and officers who are now on the frontline the chance to choose the punishment" for evasion.

He has also offered to make use of economic methods either. "We need to calculate what help an evader had received from the state, how much was spent on his education, treatment and social benefits. At least 50% of the total amount received – this will be an adequate fine. And then go to dig trenches!" said the head of Chechnya has stated.

The initiative to introduce liability for evading military service during mobilization has lost its relevance due to the end of mobilization, Andrei Kartapolov, the chairman of the State Duma Defence Committee, and Vasily Piskaryov, the chairman of the Security Committee, have stated.
