"Memorial" awarded Nobel Peace Prize

The Russian human rights organization has won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nobel Committee has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 27, 2022, Estonian MPs nominated "Memorial"* for the Nobel Peace Prize. They decided not to specify which legal entity was nominated. "In the eyes of the international community, 'Memorial', at the cradle of which stood A. D. Sakharov, is a single thing, while the 'International Memorial'* and the Human Rights Centre (HRC) 'Memorial' are integral parts thereof," the Mps have explained.

The other two laureates are Ales Bialiatski, a Belarusian lawyer and human rights defender, and the Ukrainian "Centre for Civil Liberties".

Let us remind you that on February 28, the appellate board of the Russian Supreme Court (SC) upheld the decision of the first-instance court to liquidate the "International Memorial"*. On April 5, a court in Moscow upheld the decision to liquidate the HRC "Memorial"*. On June 17, the team of the HRC "Memorial"* announced the creation of a public organization "Memorial" Centre for Defence of Human Rights.
