"International Memorial"* reports attempt to seize its Moscow office

On demand of the prosecutor's office, a court in Moscow has arrested the office of the liquidated "International Memorial"*, which was legally donated to another organization, human rights defenders have reported, treating this as an attempt to raider capture of property.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 5 this year it became known that, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, the "International Memorial"* was excluded from the list of legal entities, although the liquidation process of the organization has not been completed. The blocking of the bank accounts of the "International Memorial"* has created a problem with the execution of the liquidation decision, human rights defenders have pointed out.

The "International Memorial"* has reported an attempt to seize its office located in Karetny Ryad Street in Moscow, which has been in its ownership since 2005, the team of the "International Memorial"* has reported on the "Memorial Society" Telegram channel.

According to the law on non-commercial organizations (NCOs), after liquidation, an NCO independently manages its property, while the state can claim the property only if the NCO itself is unable to dispose of it in accordance with the charter, human rights defenders have emphasized.

"You can't hope for any just decision in 2022; and it's likely that the house on Karetny Ryad will soon be captured. This will create obstacles for the further work of the 'Memorial'," says the above post.

On June 17, 2022, the team of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) announced the creation of a public organization "'Memorial' Centre for Human Rights Defence".
