Opponents of landfill in Kuban outraged by official’s threats against an activist

When commenting on the threats voiced by an official against activist Viktor Ilyin, residents of the village of Poltavskaya have noted that the official should take care of the well-being of residents and the environmental situation in the municipality and not intimidate the residents.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 27, Viktor Ilyin said that he received threats after he expressed the opinion in a chat that the Cossacks did not participate in the struggle of the residents of the village of Poltavskaya against the landfill because of their common interests with the head of the district.

Yuri Vasin, the head of the district, called the official, whom Viktor Ilyin accused of threatening, “a very respected person in the district.” According to Yuri Vasin, the activist slandered the official.

Activists from the village of Poltavskaya have expressed their indignation about the threats against Viktor Ilyin.

“The police should deal with officials who do not fulfil their official duties and do not provide the population with environmental safety, and not with activists,” Yury Trubachyov believes. He considered fines imposed on activists as persecution for their position.

Let us remind you that the road to the landfill passes through all the streets of the Poltavskaya village, with private houses located on both sides of the road. Garbage trucks with trailers rush around the streets around the clock, disturbing the peace of the local residents, although the authorities promised to make a bypass road, notes local activist Sergey Salnikov.

By July 12, officials representing the authorities met twice the residents of the Poltavskaya village after they applied to the presidential administration with a demand to close the landfill. However, those meetings brought no results.
