Atimagomedov's advocate reports threats against him

Magomed Atimagomedov has stated that he had planned to escape, as the employees of the Kalmyk colony threatened him with charges under a terrorist article, but he was not involved in the murder of the warden, and signed his testimonies under pressure. This was reported by Azu Alieva, his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 8, the "Gulagu.net" human rights project reported that more than a hundred colony inmates were beaten up in revenge for the murder of a prison warden.

According to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), in the evening on August 5, two convicts, using a sharpening and fittings with an axe handle, attacked the colony staff, after which one warden died, and the other was hospitalized in grave condition. Both prisoners were detained; the case is being investigated under articles on murder and attempted murder.

Aza Alieva, Magomed Atimagomedov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about her visit to his client kept in the SIZO (pre-trial prison). "His condition was extremely critical; he could not stand, sit, talk, even breathed with painful shortness. There was not a single place on his body without bruises, abrasions and cuts; his eyes were swollen, he couldn't open them; there were deep cuts on his hands from handcuffs," she said. According to her story, when he unbuttoned his robe, she saw severe burns.

Aza Alieva has added that Atimagomedov was forced to sign a confession. "He said that he hadn't killed anyone, although he was forced to sign papers with confessions; he admitted that he had planned to escape, but only because the staff (of the colony) frightened him that they would blame him under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (crimes of an extremist and terrorist nature, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), and he will spend the rest of his life in jail," the advocate has concluded.
