Ingushetia: forced migrants ask not to evict them out of their barrack

Authorities of the city of Nazran are trying to use the court to evict tenants from a barrack and build a multi-storey building in its place, the tenants have complained. Khadizha Gadaborsheva, their advocate, has explained that the barrack is inhabited by the refugees, who were forced to leave their homes after the Ossetian-Ingush conflict in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia in 1992. Nikolai Dyakov, a lawyer, has pointed out that evicting people without a court ruling is illegal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April 2019, internally displaced persons (IDPs, or forced migrants) from the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, who live in three barracks in Nazran in Fabrichnaya Street, received a demand from the Mayoralty to move out. Tenants have nowhere to go, as they had not been provided with any alternative housing; and it is impossible to buy it with the money allocated for refugees.

In the autumn of 1992, in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, an armed conflict broke out between Ossetians and Ingushes. A total of 583 people were killed, other 939 were wounded, and 261 persons were recorded as missing. From 30 to 60 thousand Ingushes were forced to leave the territory of their historical residence and settle mainly in the neighbouring Ingushetia.

Ruslan Akhilgov is the only tenant of the barrack in Nazran, who has the status of a forced migrant. He has noted that it is painful for him to share his memories of the years spent in the barracks, because his three closest people died therein.

According to Marusya Meirieva, another barrack tenant, over the years many migrants have died, some went abroad. Mostly the disabled and people with chronic diseases remain in the barracks.

She dreams that Kremlin officials learn about the life of barrack tenants.
