Number of activists detained in Yerevan reaches 69

In Yerevan, the police detained 69 protesters for failure to obey the police. Levon Kocharyan, one of the organizers of the protest action, called a clash between marchers and policemen the result of a provocation by the police.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 4, the opposition continued its protest actions in Yerevan and regions of Armenia. Today, activists have blocked several streets in the capital of Armenia.

The activists demand to prevent the revision of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh and dismiss Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

On Thursday, during a march led by Aram Vardevanyan, an MP from the “Hayastan” faction and Levon Kocharyan, a son of the second Armenian president Robert Kocharyan, a clash occurred between policemen and activists.

Levon Kocharyan blamed the police for the incident. According to him, the policemen provoked the clash and began to detain the activists, and as a result, 20 protesters were brought to police stations. The son of the second Armenian president suggests that the actions of the police demonstrate the fears of the authorities.
