Armenian police confirm detention of 169 activists at protests

Today, 155 protesters have been detained in Yerevan for failure to obey the police, and 14 more activists have been detained in the Gegarkunik and Ararat Regions.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the opposition has resumed actions of disobedience in Yerevan and blocked several streets. According to the opposition, at least 250 activists were brought to police stations.

On May 2, the opposition blocked more than a dozen streets in Yerevan, and 244 people were detained. The protesters also held a march demanding the resignation of the Armenian government headed by Nikol Pashinyan. The opposition announced its plans to paralyze the traffic throughout the country on May 3.

Arthur Vanetsyan, the head of the “I Have the Honour” opposition parliamentary faction, reports that today, activists have blocked roads not only in Yerevan, but also in Vanadzor, Vayk, Sevan, and other cities. “The police are trying to prevent the protest with their detentions, but they will not succeed, we will achieve our victory,” Arthur Vanetsyan states.

Let us remind you that on April 13, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility of “lowering the bar” on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. His statement caused outrage in Armenia, which resulted in the protest actions.
