Kalmykia: activist appeals against fine imposed for inscription on backpack

Elizaveta Perekryostova, who was brought to administrative responsibility in Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, for discrediting the army, has appealed against the fine imposed on her by the court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 7, Elista policemen drew up the first administrative protocol under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces (Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) against Elizaveta Perekryostova, who was detained for a pacifist inscription on her backpack. Law enforcers have treated the inscription "No to war" as an offense.

The court has fined her by 20,000 roubles, the project "OVD-Info"* reported on April 26. According to the project's post, Ms Perekryostova has filed an appeal against the court ruling.

Let us remind you that in a similar situation, Ruslan Dodgaev, another Elista resident, was detained for a pacifist inscription on his bag. Policemen drew up a protocol on violation of the procedure for holding a picket against him. In court, the officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) themselves asked to dismiss the case "due to incorrect qualification."

*The project has been put by the Russian Ministry of Justice on the list of the foreign media that act as a foreign agent.
