Saudi Arabia halves the Hajj quota for Russian Muslims

The Hajj quota for Russian Muslims, a significant part of which are pilgrims from Dagestan, has become twice as small as it was before the pandemic. A total of 11,318 Muslims from Russia will be able to make the pilgrimage to Mecca this year.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2020, the authorities of Saudi Arabia cancelled the pilgrimage from other countries to the shrines in Mecca and Medina because of the coronavirus. From January 1, 2022, the country allowed entry of those vaccinated with the "Sputnik-V" vaccine.

The above 11,318 places for Russian Muslims will soon be distributed among the Spiritual Administrations of Muslims (SAMs) of the regions of the Russian Federation.

Prior to the pandemic, a significant part of the Russian quota was granted to pilgrims from Dagestan – more than 9000 people annually, the "Youth of Dagestan" outlet writes.

In 2022, the big Hajj will be held on July 7-12, according to the "Mecca-Online" website.
