HRC "Memorial"* lawyers will continue working on complaints to ECtHR

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"* will appeal against the decision to liquidate it, said the lawyer, Grigory Vaipan. The HRC begins the process of liquidation, Oleg Orlov, a human rights defender, has informed; however, its lawyers will continue working on complaints already filed with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), Anna Dobrovolskaya, the executive director of the HRC, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 5, the First Court of Appeal in Moscow refused to satisfy the defence's request to suspend the liquidation process until the ECtHR's decision on the complaint against the law on foreign agents.

The institute of justice has been destroyed in Russia; the country is returning to totalitarianism, the board members of the HRC "Memorial"* have stated.

After this court decision, the HRC "Memorial"* will be finally liquidated, Oleg Orlov, a board member, has emphasized.

The HRC "Memorial"* will no longer be able to carry out its activities, as this can be regarded as a failure to comply with the court ruling, Ms Dobrovolskaya has noted, assuring that the lawyers of the HRC "Memorial"* will work on the cases initiated before the liquidation. It is unlikely that there will be any effect from filing a cassation appeal, she has added.
