Residents of Georgia demand to announce mourning for those who perished in Ukraine

David Gobedjishvili, a Georgian fighter, who perished in Ukraine, was buried with military honours. Authorities have done everything possible to repatriate the dead Georgian fighters, the prime minister has stated. At their solidarity actions with Ukrainians, residents of Georgia demanded to announce April 5 a mourning day in connection with the events in Bucha.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 24, the bodies of Giya Beriashvili and David Ratiani, who had left for Ukraine as volunteers, were delivered to Georgia. On April 3, David Gobedjishvili was buried in the city of Tkibuli.

Let us remind you that the Georgian volunteers, Giya Beriashvili, David Ratiani and Bakhva Chikobava, have also perished in Ukraine. Bakhva Chikobava died in Mariupol; and his body still cannot be taken out of there.

"For any nation, a soldier who died in the war is a saint. Generations are growing up with the knowledge about these soldiers, and books are being written that create what is called patriotism," Shota Utiashvili, an analyst, wrote on the Facebook*.

On April 4, citizens and NGOs demanded that April 5 be declared a mourning day because of what happened in the town of Bucha near Kiev, but received no response from authorities.

"What happened in Bucha is a tragedy not only for Ukraine, but for the whole world," Irakli Pavlenishvili, an activist, said on the "Formula" TV.
