Experts assess risks of activating underground in Chechnya

Sending law enforcers outside the republic will not weaken the position of Ramzan Kadyrov, and amid the special operation, and in case of any incidents in Chechnya, there will be ruthless actions against any opponents, Amir Kolov, a police colonel, and Alexei Malashenko, a Caucasian expert, have pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 17, Kadyrov announced that a thousand volunteers from Chechnya had gone to Ukraine. On March 24, it became known that a new detachment of volunteers, including members of his family clan, had been sent to participate in the special operation.

The dispatch of OMON (riot police) and "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) fighters from Chechnya to participate in the special operation is unlikely to affect the situation in Chechnya with the armed underground, Amir Kolov, a police colonel, believes.

During the six days of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine, a lot of rumours and conjectures have appeared. What is really known about the participation of Chechen law enforcers, about their losses and statements of the republic's leadership, – read the details in the reference material of the "Caucasian Knot".

On March 23, in his Telegram channel, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that fighters of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Purpose Police Regiment had been sent to Ukraine to participate in the special operation; according to Kadyrov, they are one of the most trained and combat-ready fighters in Chechnya.

Amid sending Chechen law enforcers to Ukraine to take part in the special operation, there are no risks of activating the armed underground in the region, Alexei Malashenko, a chief researcher at the E. M. Primakov Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). He has stressed that the return of the law enforcers to Chechnya with a victory will strengthen the position of these units and Kadyrov's position either.
